Day 30: Random alley artwork

So I have noticed in the communities of bankview and marda loop that there is one or several individuals that are taking their time to spread cheer throughout an area which is normally littered with junk and random trash. In alleys they have painted these small little flowers on bins, on poles, on railings, steps throughout the community. It isn't something that everyone would notice but for the people that do I hope it bring smiles to there face. It brings out a creative fun side, make it feel like more of a fun community, rather than just another part of calgary. Do enjoy and keep your eyes open for random art.

Week 5: Day 29: Art, artwork around calgary and area.

Octopus Elvis!!!! Has anyone ever seen that before. Well you are about to. I have found some sreet artwork mostly featured in the community of Kensington, but also located in Marda Loop, that is very interesting. It is artwork that some unknown artist to me has cut out shapes and painted them. Then going around and putting them on fences and power poles. Its subtle and something not everyone would notice yet awesome! Keep your eyes peeled next time you on a side street or a back alley with wood power poles. Very cool art.

Day 19: Superman Drunk

The St.Louis hotel was built in 1914 to house workers from the CPR it closed its doors December 2nd, 2006. It earned the affection of everyone from Premier Ralph Klein to the working men of the city. Prostitutes and crack dealers were also just a few of the locals, butit did have its stint in hollywood. Superman got drunk here in the movie Superman 3,  making it into the hollywood history forever. It's a beautiful building with so ads painted on the side to promote their food and coffee. If you are interested in reading more about the iconic building check out this link:

Day 18: Good trade

Bragg Creek. A small town at the base of the rocky mountains and the gateway to kananaskis country. One trail passes through bragg creek called the Cowboy trail. On this trail in the Historic building "The Bragg Creek Trading Post" The sign that I would like feature isn't the trading post sign exactly but the Shell gas sign and a 1920 hand pump located outside the shop.
Here is a small excerpt from the website cowboytrail.com
"Business as usual at the Trading Post means a truly unique shopping experience. Where else can you gas up from a 1920’s visual hand pump while you buy your bread and milk, local vine-ripened tomatoes or a juicy T-bone steak; outfit yourself in a new shirt, Cowichan Sweater, or gumboots; purchase a fishing license or a chain saw file or chalk for your chalk-line; or best of all try on a pair of genuine Native moccasins or mukluks? Where else can one conduct all this sort of business around the warmth of a trusty wood heater, admist the aroma of freshly tanned hides while joining other locals present in the lively discussion of the latest issues?

Truly a unique shopping experience with a subtle mingling of the old and the new. That is the essence of the Trading Post to this day. "

Bragg Creek is a beautiful little hamlet that has great restaurants, beautiful day hikes, amazing camping, great fishing and quirky little shops. Take your bike, snow shoes, harley, fancy car, cross country ski's, your girlfriend/boyfriend, or even your family out for a trip to Bragg some time.

Day 17: curious this one

This is an old sign painted on the side of a building at the corner of 14th street and 17th ave. S.W. It has partially been painted over and it is badly faded. The interesting features of this sign is the phone number, a four digit number unlike todays 10. It is a family buisness from back in the day of plumbing, heating and air conditioning.

Day 16: I'll have a Cosmopolitan please

The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Blairemore is my second day of old signs. The original Cosmopolitan Hotel was built in 1904 during the first years of Blairmore's boom. Fire destroyed the building in early 1912. The new three storey brick structure was completed in November 1912. It currently has new signs and what not of the modern era, but out of the main view there is the original sign. Painted, fading and neglected, but still there.
Please enjoy

Week 3, Day 15: The third weeks topic is... Old signs or old adds. Please Enjoy.

The challenge of a picture a day continues. This is the third week giving all of us the third topic. This weeks topic is old signs or adds.

I have departed my home for a couple days to do some reno's in Coleman/Blairmore in the Crowsnest pass. There is alot of history here in the pass. Lots of unique items to shoot.
The Roxy Theater here in Coleman is closed. Before it was the Roxy it was called the Palace theatre, it Burnt down in 1948 and thus the roxy was built. It is completely run down and has been closed for years. It has a very unique Pepsi add on the side and thus it deserves to be shared with all of you. Enjoy

Day 11: Oh deer...

There is an abundance of wildlife out in the Canadian wilderness. I am fortunate to be in a area of Alberta where there are animals are all around us. Geese, Moose, birds, squirels among many. But todays animal is the Mule Deer.  I would love to say I have a bunch of cool neato facts about the mule deer but I don't. Just make sure they avoid your front bumper. It doesnt work out for anyone, especially not the deer.

Day 10: cutting it close

So I'm cutting it close tonight. Its 11:55 according to the clock on my computer. I have had a dead camera almost all day and have seen very few animals. I did in fact see two squirrels going at it, but my camera was dead. So today I will show you an amazing animal in my life. Sativa, the Malamute shephard cross puppy (she's actually 9 in human years) that is in my life. She is amazing. She was brought into my life because of my amazing girlfriend and I am in love with this dog. Every day I come home she has nothing but tail wags and cute puppy behavior for me. She is awesome.
Enjoy.

Day 9: Yesterday a goose but now the Moose

I knew this week was going to be interesting. With so many animals out there which ones would I share with all of you. Well this morning two animals crossed my path. Actually four animals but two species. A common house cat and a moose family. A cow and her two calfs (a mom and her two babies).
The house cat was more than anything just curious but the mom felt like protecting her babies They faced off and then the poor cat got chased under a tree then almost trampled before bolting for the house nearby. Not something you normally get to see on a Wednesday morning.

This family has also decided to take up residence at a house in Bragg Creek. This winter has been harder on the critters that past winters so free food is always an attraction, even is it makes a horse jealous.

Week2, Day 8: The next topic is...

Animals. I know it's a little general... There's dogs, cats, horses, pigs, wolves, foxes, swans, and soooo many more, but that is the topic for the next 7 days. Deal with it but do please enjoy.

Animal 1
The Canadian Goose.
An amazing bird that typically doesn't like to hang around here during the winter months. Known for the flying V and their "honk" or "Squak", however you wanna say it. I could give a bunch more random facts about this cool bird... or I could just show you pictures. Yay pictures!
